The role of water retailers in supporting business customers to improve their water efficiency and save money has never been more important. As the market approaches the eighth year since competition was introduced, the expectations on water retailers' expectations are higher than ever and firms know they will need to find ever more innovative solutions to customer needs. 

This award recognises companies that have found fresh ways to support customers and run more efficient business. We will be looking for evidence of strong engagement strategies, clever use of data and technology and tariff innovation. 

Companies should also be able to evidence strong social, environmental and governance initiatives and the willingness to collaborate with both the supply chain and the wider water sector to tackle common challenges. 

Eligibility: 

The Water Industry Awards are open to companies of ALL sizes. The initiative, project and/or campaign should either be ongoing or have been completed during 2023. 

What to include: 

This category will recognise the water retailer that can best demonstrate a combination of exceptional customer service, positive environmental impact, agenda-setting innovation and workforce best practice through its work in 2023. Please note that supporting material will only be called upon where necessary and may not be viewed by the judges – please make your case within the entry form. 

Word count & criteria:

Please note that your entry should be no more than 1,000 words in total. 

  • Customer Service: Please describe how and to what extent the water company has improved its service to customers during 2023 providing figures and evidence where possible. (250 words) 

  • Positive environmental impact: Please provide evidence of how the company is improving the environment. (250 words) 

  • Innovation: Please provide evidence of how the company is innovating and leading the industry in new techniques or practices. (250 words) 

  • People: Please explain in what ways the company is investing in its people, improving their skills, safety and wellbeing for the long term. (250 words)
